As part of our One Mission journey, let us all join our hearts, heads, and hands, and embark together on this journey of rediscovering and embracing our One Mission as Christ’s disciples, Small Groups, and One Faith Church Family in fulfilling His Great Commission!

“… go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20

Let us continue partnering God as He accomplishes His work through each of us – His Church – to those He has placed among us, just around the corner, along the street, and across the regions beyond our borders!

Listed below are the Breakout Sessions at our One Mission Small Group Conference (OMSGC) on 23 January 2021. Contact your Parish Leader should you need notes and/or an in-depth equipping session to be conducted in your Small Group – let’s get equipped together!

“Just by leading a Small Group, you’ve got a head start on being a good neighbour because you understand the power of long-term relationships. Think for a second about what you have as a group: Do the people in the environments that God has placed you in have that? Does the bak-chor mee auntie have people like you in her life? How about the other places you frequent? Are there good neighbours there?

As a group, create an action plan for how you’ll come into relationship with the people Jesus would have spent time with.”

Loving Your Neighbours

You see them sometimes unlocking their gates next to your house, hear them singing while taking a shower, and smell the burning incense or cigarette smoke coming into your house. They can be so near and yet so far – living next to you for many years and without you knowing much about each other. Nevertheless, God loves them too and chose to place your home near them! This session seeks to provide you with practical ideas on how to love your neighbours of varied nationality, race, religion, and language, so that they too may know and experience the love of Christ.

Suggested Action Steps:

  • Who are my neighbours?
    Identify them! Write out a map! The ones who live in our block, around the church, our school, our workplace, that relative – these are people God has placed around us to disciple.
  • Discover “How To Neighbour”, a 10-day Bible reading plan together as a Small Group!
  • Be the bridge-builder!
    Intentionally befriend those on your map by greeting them by name, striking conversations, etc. Remember things about them so that you can effectively pray for and extend care and love to them.
  • Pray together as a Small Group
    Find one neighbour to disciple. Share his/her name with your Small Group for accountability and support (prayer, manpower etc)

Culture can affect our understanding and reception of the Gospel. Some theologies emphasize the forgiveness of sins, but people in many other nations seek honour or spiritual power. Come and learn how the Bible speaks to cultures of guilt, shame, and fear, and how we can be culturally sensitive and relevant as we bring the Gospel across cultures.

Suggested Action Steps:

  • Culture Is a Pathway for the Gospel
    Make time to understand the culture and worldview of one neighbour who you want to reach out to
  • Read and discuss the two articles below as a Small Group:

    – Why Understanding Culture Helps Us Fulfill The Great Commission

  • Learn together as a Small Group!
    Learn a bit of the language, such as words like “good morning”, “goodbye” and “thank you”. This will be useful for initiating conversations that can lead to spiritual conversations in the future!

What is the difference between humanitarian and mission trips? How can we bring transformative development to local communities? Even though we may have good intentions, sometimes we can dis-enable people instead of empowering them. This interactive session is a brief introduction to a Biblical approach to community transformation.

Suggested Action Steps:

  • Discover together as a Small Group “Helping Without Hurting: The Bible and the Poor”, a 10-day Bible reading plan!

    The Bible is full of commands to care for the poor and the oppressed. In ten days, explore the depth of God’s concern for the poor, and what it might look like for you to answer that call in your own life. Each day includes a real-life story or anecdote, Scripture and meditation, challenge, and prayer drawn from Scripture. The content of these devotions is inspired by or derived from “When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor”, and “Yourself” by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. God uses ordinary people like us to share the love of Jesus Christ. You do not need to be a Pastor, a Bible teacher, or a seasoned evangelist. Just be yourself, a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ! This session will equip you to share the Gospel in the simplest way possible, so that whenever and wherever an opportunity arises, you are ready to be a witness with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Suggested Action Steps:

  • Learn and practice together as a Small Group how to share the Gospel!
  • Practice sharing your testimony and the Gospel with people you know and are comfortable with in your Small Group!

  • Make use of these conversation starters!

Learn how to reach out to pre-believing youths through creative activities that build relationships and introduce Christian values and principles! Get to know the different approaches to youth outreach, and get practical handles to work with youths both locally and overseas.

Suggested Action Steps:

As Tanglin Halt residents moved out in 2020, we expect an influx of migrant workers in our community from the construction industry. This session prepares you and your Small Group to understand and be equipped for this upcoming ministry opportunity!

Suggested Action Steps:

    As a Small Group, look out for that migrant worker, that domestic helper, that foreign student, or that foreign professional within your spheres of influence!

  • Invite them for a meal or outing
  • Host gatherings in your home
  • Conduct marketplace Alpha
  • Adopt a family in the community around Faith

Learn how to design Bible-based, science-inspired outreach programmes to engage children in your local outreach or mission trip! Pick up easy science activities that help you convey Biblical truths in a creative and educational way. Children’s outreach will never be the same again!

Suggested Action Steps:

  • The children in your neighbourhood, school, colleagues’ children, cousins – invite them for a party, craft session, or other activites!
