The Alpha course is a series of interactive sessions that explore the Christian faith and life. Alpha is for the open-minded, the adventurous, and the curious. The course provides a safe space to ask questions and stimulate conversations about life, faith, and God. It will run in March 2025 for our pre-believing friends and family. Do start by praying and inviting your friends and family to Christmas At Faith 2024!

If you are interested in evangelism or have a strong desire to help others find their faith or enjoy connecting with people, come and be equipped as an Alpha volunteer! It will be an exciting journey as we connect and host our pre-believer guests through food, videos and meaningful group discussions! Find out more in the upcoming Alpha Facilitators’ Training.

FAQ:

  1. What is the Alpha course?

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. It is for anyone curious about the Christian faith. The course is designed to encourage conversation and explore the meaning of life in a friendly, open, and informal environment. No question is out of bounds – one is free to discuss as much or as little as one wishes.

  1. What does an Alpha session look like?

Connect:
Friendship and fun are essentials on Alpha. Every Alpha session starts with a time to connect, relax and build friendships. The volunteers will first engage with the guests over the food (for the on-site session). Having food and games together every week creates a space and culture for people to share life on a deeper level.

Content:
The Alpha talks in the video are designed to engage people from all walks of life and inspire conversation. The guests will explore the big questions of life, unpack the basics of the Christian faith, and address questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”.

Conversation:
A very important part of Alpha: the guests will have a chance to share their questions related to the session, hear from others, and discuss in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing they cannot say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute our perspectives in an honest, friendly, and open environment.

  1. When will the next Alpha course be held?

It will commence on 6 March 2025 (weekly on Thursday evening, except 26 March, Wednesday) for 10 weeks from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm and end with the Alpha Celebration Night. Volunteers will be required to come early for prayer as a team before every session starts and then have a meal together with the guests.

Locations for:

  • Weekly session on Thursdays: Wesley Hall (Level Attic), FMC
  • Weekend Away: 10 May 2025 (Saturday)

More details on the Weekend Away will be released soon.

  1. What is the difference between the role of host and helper?
  • The role of a host is to facilitate discussion after watching the video and to draw conversation out of the small group. Weekly guides will be given so don’t worry about how to start a conversation in the group!
  • The role of a helper is to build friendships with guests and support the hosts.
