New to Christianity

“Jesus said, ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

God created you. And He loves you so much. Sadly, our world is broken and riddled with sin, evil and sickness. By our own efforts, we who are imperfect cannot reach the perfect God. But God loves us and desires for us to know Him so much, that He sent His Son Jesus Christ as the substitute for you and me: Jesus died on our behalf, so we can be reconciled with God and have eternal life in Heaven with Him.

Christianity is more than a religion. It is a personal, intimate and vibrant relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. It is also a lifestyle of worship that is dependent on and led by the Holy Spirit.

John 3:16

WHO IS God?

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Genesis 1:1

When a Christian refers to “God”, he is speaking of the God in the context of the Bible, the Creator who made the universe and everything in it, including time, space, and humankind. He cannot be created and He exists forever.

God may not be provable through mathematical formulae or the properties of physics, but the evidence of God is all around us. For example, by looking at a watch, we know that the watchmaker exists even though we have not seen him. Likewise, by observing the complexity, beauty and orderliness in creation, we know of the existence of an intelligent Creator even though we have not seen Him.

WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"

John 14:6

Jesus Christ is central to the Christian faith. He was born in Bethlehem to the carpenter Joseph and his wife Mary, who was a virgin. Jesus was conceived in her womb by the power of God’s Spirit. His supernatural birth was the first sign that He was no ordinary person. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Son of God, sent into the world to live as one of us, in order to show mankind what God is like.

Though He was subjected to all the human experiences of hunger, pain, and temptation, Jesus was sinless. Not only did He show us how to live, He demonstrated God’s sacrificial love for mankind when He took all our sins upon Himself and died on the Cross. When He died, He saved us from the penalty of our sin.

On the third day, God resurrected Jesus from the dead. Sin and death were defeated! At least 500 people saw Him alive before He ascended physically to Heaven, leaving a commission to His disciples to share the Good News of salvation before He comes back again.

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"

John 14:6

WHO IS the Holy Spirit?

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

John 14:16-17

The Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost in Old English) is the third Person of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). He is sent to continue the work of God in the lives of men after Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven. He hears, speaks, convinces, testifies, shows, leads, guides, teaches, prompts speech, commands, forbids, helps, and intercedes for us humans before God.

What is the Good News?

God wants to have a relationship with us. However, our sin separated us from Him. Many of us try to get back to God on our own, but we fail. Even if we do many good things, our sin is still there, and the result of sin is death. But God did for us what we could not do for ourselves, that is, to bridge the gap between us and Him. He did that by taking our death penalty upon Himself when Jesus Christ died on the Cross in our place. It is not enough just to know this. We have to act on it by admitting that we have sinned, and that we need His forgiveness and leadership in our lives.

The question is: Are you willing to accept Jesus into your life now?

How do I become a Christian?

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Romans 10:9

Accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour and trusting Him to be the leader of your life involves:

01

Agreeing with God that we are to blame for turning our back on Him

02

Trusting God to forgive us completely, because Jesus has paid the price for our self-centeredness.

03

Choosing to follow Jesus.

To accept Jesus, you must put your life in His hands. God is not so much concerned with your words as He is with your attitude. If you would like to ask Jesus to come into your life, here is a suggested prayer to guide you through your conversation with God:

Lord Jesus Christ,
I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. I ask for Your forgiveness. Thank You for dying on the Cross for me to set me free from my sins. Please come into my life to be the Leader of my life and be with me forever. Thank You Jesus.

Amen
